About us

A home away from home for Afghan Turkic families.

We are a community nonprofit based in Roseville, California, serving families across the Sacramento region and beyond.

Our story

From the mountains of Afghanistan to the valleys of California.

Afghan Turkic families — Uzbek, Turkmen, and others — have deep roots in northern Afghanistan, in cities and villages where Turkic poetry, carpet weaving, and the art of hospitality have flourished for centuries.

As more of our families settled in Northern California, we found ourselves longing for the sound of our languages, the rhythm of our celebrations, and the comfort of familiar faces. What began as neighbors sharing meals and holidays grew into an organized community.

Today, the Afghan Turkic Community in California offers weekend classes for children, hosts cultural and religious gatherings, and helps families — especially newcomers — feel at home.

The meaning of our emblem

Two homelands, one circle.

Our logo joins the snowy peaks of the Hindu Kush with the Golden Gate, palm trees, and the California bear. Traditional Afghan carpet patterns and Turkic ornament frame the scene, while the crescent and star speak to our faith and Turkic heritage. The black, red, and green ribbon honors Afghanistan; the turquoise wave honors the wider Turkic world.
