Enrollment is open for weekend language and Qur’an classes

Our weekend school is welcoming new and returning students for the year ahead. Classes in Uzbek, Farsi/Dari, and Qur'an reading are grouped by age and level, so every child can start where they are.

Space in each group is limited to keep classes small and personal. Use the contact form or call us to reserve a place — and ask about family discounts for siblings.

Celebrating the Uzbek language, from Afghanistan to California

Uzbek Language Day is a reminder of how much a language carries — songs, proverbs, recipes, and the way a grandmother says good morning. For Afghan Uzbek families, keeping the language alive is a way of keeping family close.

Our students are already practicing poems and songs for this year’s celebration. Families, friends, and neighbors are warmly invited to join us.

Under the shade of tall pines, families spread out carpets and white cloths for a traditional dastarkhan. Volunteers grilled kebab, served palaw, and poured endless cups of green tea.

Thank you to every family who brought a dish, and to the volunteers who arrived early and stayed late. Moments like this are what our community is built on.

Some of our members have lived in California for decades; others arrived only recently. On this sunny afternoon, everyone stood side by side.

We are grateful for the elders who guide us and the young people who will carry our traditions forward.
